FRU truck crash: Investigation ongoing - Puspakom
The company reiterated its readiness to assist the authorities.

SHAH ALAM – Puspakom has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into the tragic collision along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel. The incident, which occurred yesterday, has raised concerns over vehicle safety and maintenance standards.
In a statement, Puspakom said it would not comment on the investigations or respond to public remarks out of respect for the ongoing process and those involved.
"At this time, the incident is under active investigation by the relevant authorities. Out of respect for the ongoing process and the people involved, Puspakom will not comment on the investigations or react to comments made in the public domain,” the company said.
The lorry involved in the fatal crash reportedly suffered a steering failure, a revelation that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested could have been avoided with proper vehicle inspections.
“This shouldn’t have happened if the lorry went through Puspakom testing,” Zahid reportedly said.
Zahid also called for stricter measures, including routine drug tests for drivers.
“Strict checks must be conducted. At the same time, drug checks must also be conducted on drivers,” he added.
Puspakom, Malaysia’s primary vehicle inspection agency, reiterated its readiness to assist the authorities.
“Puspakom remains fully prepared to cooperate with the authorities in any way necessary throughout the course of the investigation,” the statement read.
In addition to pledging cooperation, Puspakom urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information on social media.
“Misinformation not only disrupts the investigation but also causes unnecessary pain to the families affected. We respectfully urge the public to await official updates from proper channels,” it said.
The tragic accident has reignited painful memories of the 1990 Karak Highway tragedy and has drawn attention to the critical need for stringent vehicle testing protocols. Advocates are calling for enhanced enforcement of road safety standards to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to their families, colleagues, and everyone affected by this devastating event,” Puspakom said.
