MELAKA – A tragic incident unfolded in Taman Rambai Mutiara early Thursday morning, as a 17-year-old Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidate allegedly stabbed his mother and older brother to death, reportedly driven by academic pressure and frequent scolding.

In the 5am incident, the 17-year-old suspect is believed to have entered his mother’s bedroom and attacked her before fatally stabbing the 51-year-old woman with a folding knife.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the victim's eldest son, aged 21, heard the commotion and tried to intervene but was also fatally stabbed.

The bodies of the mother and son were later found in the living room of the single-storey terrace house.

He said the woman’s youngest son, aged 13, also suffered serious injuries after being stabbed by the suspect, but is reported to be in stable condition and is currently receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital.

“The motive appears to be due to feelings of resentment, emotional suppression and psychological stress, no other motive. The mother and brother often scolded the suspect, so the case is considered solved.

“So far, several stab wounds have been found on the victims, including on the neck, waist and back. The bodies have been sent to Melaka Hospital for post-mortem examination,” he said during a press conference at the Melaka Contingent Police Headquarters on Thursday.

Also present was Melaka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Assistant Commissioner Leow Kian Heong.

Dzulkhairi added that after killing his family members, the suspect, who had purchased the folding knife earlier, attempted to destroy evidence by hiding the weapon in his school bag, which was found outside the house.

He said the suspect also allegedly discarded his blood-stained clothes in nearby bushes and admitted to committing the act during police questioning.

He added that when the police arrived, the suspect was found sitting and staring blankly outside the house, as if unaware of his actions.

“It can be said that fights occurred daily in this family. According to neighbours, shouting and arguments were frequent, with the mother and brother often scolding the suspect.

“Through footage from a neighbour’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, we confirmed that no one else entered the house and it also captured the suspect attempting to dispose of the evidence,” he added.

The teenager is currently in custody and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Earlier, it was reported that a teacher and her 21-year-old son were believed to have been murdered.

The 51-year-old school teacher and her eldest son were found in the living room, while her youngest son, aged 13, was found covered in blood in the garage of the single-storey terrace house.
