SHAH ALAM – Setiawangsa Member of Parliament Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has made it clear that he has no intention of leaving Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) or Pakatan Harapan (PH), stressing that he remains committed to the mandate given to him by the people.

He intends to serve his full term and contest in the next General Election (GE) under the same banner.

“My loyalty lies with the mandate given to me by the people, which is to serve as part of Keadilan and PH. That was the platform I contested on, and I intend to see my term through to the end.

“At present, I am focused on my media work and I believe everyone makes their own choices. We all have our roles to play, but for me, until the end of this term, I will not be leaving the party," he told Sinar Daily at the Karangkraf Group Complex yesterday.

The former Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability minister clarified that his commitment was rooted in the fact that he was elected on this mandate and respected the trust placed in him.

He also reflected on the political instability witnessed in recent years.

“The reason is simple. I was elected on this mandate and I respect that. We have seen in the past, especially between 2018 and 2022, how quickly politicians have switched sides. Malaysians are tired of that constant back-and-forth.

“That is why I believe people should not mistake our vocal views, criticisms or strong opinions as a sign of wanting to jump ship.

"For us, it is about fulfilling our mandate. Being a reform party and a reform movement, Keadilan has always allowed space for diverse voices," he added.

Nik Nazmi cited Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim as an example of the space PKR provided for differing perspectives.

“I often point to Hassan as an example. He has always been a maverick, and some of his remarks have been even bolder than mine.

"That shows there is room in this party for me to continue playing my role and as long as that space exists, I will remain here.

“As for the next GE, my focus and hope is that Keadilan will once again give me the platform to contest in Setiawangsa," he said.
