G-Dragon won Artist of the Year at MAMA 2025 as fans speculate over BigBang’s 20th anniversary reunion
Before accepting that award, he paid tribute to the grieving Hong Kong community.

SHAH ALAM – South Korean rapper, producer and fashion icon G-Dragon secured the night’s most prestigious honour, Artist of the Year, at the 2025 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) Awards held at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium on Saturday.
Hong Kong screen legend Chow Yun-fat presented the grand prize, first leading the stadium in a moment of silence for the victims of the tragic Wang Fuk Court fire, which claimed more than 128 lives earlier in the week, as reported by Chonsun Daily.
Accepting the award, G-Dragon reflected on his journey over the past year.
“I made my comeback through MAMA last year and this year’s activities have been unlike any other.
“Thank you to my VIP fan club. Next year marks our group’s 20th anniversary and I hope to celebrate with friends at the party. I’ll see you then,” he said in his speech.
The comment reignited speculation about a possible BigBang reunion, with fans dissecting whether he was hinting at the return of former member T.O.P.
Netizens divided over whether T.O.P will return
Following G-Dragon’s speech, online communities began buzzing with questions: Is T.O.P rejoining BigBang for their 20th anniversary?
Most fans dismissed the speculation saying that T.O.P will not be returning.
Others remained hopeful for his return to the group, even though they knew it was unlikely.
A night marked by tribute and triumph

In addition to Artist of the Year, G-Dragon also received Best Dance Performance Male Solo for his track “TOO BAD.”
Before accepting that award, he paid tribute to the grieving Hong Kong community.
“I hope I can once again be a source of strength for the people of Hong Kong. I’ve prepared an even better performance tonight. I don’t know what consolation I can offer, but I hope we can all gather strength and move forward,” he said.
Earlier, he donated HK$1 million to a relief fund supporting survivors of the Wang Fuk Court fire and the affected families’ psychological recovery.
A historic return for MAMA in Hong Kong
Held at Kai Tak Stadium on 28 and 29 Nov, this year marked the return of the MAMA Awards to Hong Kong after seven years. Despite the tragic fire only 20 kilometres from the venue, organisers CJ ENM confirmed that the ceremony would proceed, adjusting segments to maintain a more respectful tone.
The two-day event delivered powerful performances from groups such as Ive, Enhypen, BabyMonster, TWS, NCT Wish, and Stray Kids. Day one saw major wins for Ive and Enhypen, while day two featured G-Dragon’s highly anticipated stage.
The ceremony also highlighted the success of the animated film KPop Demon Hunters, with performances inspired by its fictional idol groups HUNTR/X and Saja Boys.
