‘An act of magnanimity’: Pas Youth praises Muhyiddin’s decision to step down

SHAH ALAM – The decision by Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to relinquish his position as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman has been described as an act of magnanimity and is deeply respected.

Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the contributions and services of the Bersatu president and former Prime Minister would continue to be remembered by the people, particularly his leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Thank you, Tan Sri. We regard this as an act of magnanimity and one that is deeply respected. All the contributions and services of Tan Sri while leading PN and Malaysia previously will continue to be remembered and appreciated.

“Saving the country from the Covid-19 pandemic and restoring it until we are able to live as we do today. That is a very great service to all of us. That history cannot be changed,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Muhyiddin had earlier announced his resignation as PN chairman, effective from Jan 1, 2026.

Afnan also stressed that views he had expressed previously did not diminish his respect for Muhyiddin.

“All the views I have expressed do not in the slightest reduce my respect and admiration for Tan Sri, especially as someone older and more experienced than me,” he said.

He apologised if any of his remarks had caused offence, stressing that there were no personal issues involved and that his position was taken for the collective good within the organisation.

On the continuation of the political struggle, Afnan said leadership changes should not derail shared objectives.

“Even if the captain of the ship changes, this vessel must continue to sail through waves and storms until it reaches its destination.

“On behalf of the entire PN Youth and Pas Youth machinery, we say thank you, Tan Sri. Your service will be remembered,” he said.
