SHAH ALAM - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has appeared in a video showing him drinking coffee at a cafe near Jerusalem, seemingly addressing rumours circulating online that he had died or had been injured.

The video, shared on his Telegram account on Sunday, came after claims reported by Iranian state media spread widely across social media platforms.

In the footage, Netanyahu was seen sitting at a cafe and casually chatting with his aide while enjoying a cup of coffee. His aide then raised the rumours that suggested he had died.

Responding with humour, Netanyahu used wordplay related to the word “dead”, which in Hebrew slang can also mean being extremely fond of something.

“I am crazy about coffee. Do you know that? I am crazy about my people,” he said while reaching for his drink.

The location of the recording was verified by British news agency Reuters through file images of the cafe that matched the interior of the premises.

The timing of the video was also confirmed through photos and videos of Netanyahu’s visit posted by the cafe on the same day.

According to Indian news agency NDTV, Netanyahu also lifted both of his hands and showed his fingers to the camera during the recording.

The move appeared to address another claim circulating online that footage from a press conference he held on Thursday showed him with six fingers on one hand, leading to some social media users alleging that the video had been created using artificial intelligence.

“Do you want to count my fingers? You can see them here and here. See? Very good,” Netanyahu said.
