KUALA LUMPUR - More than 6,000 underprivileged individuals nationwide benefited from aid distributed by Prestasi Setia Unggul Sdn Bhd throughout Ramadan, as part of its ongoing welfare initiatives.

Managing Director Mohammad Arrief Mu’min said the assistance covered cash contributions, essential goods and various programmes aimed at supporting ‘asnaf’ communities, particularly in high-density urban areas such as People’s Housing Projects (PPR).

“In some PPR areas, the population can reach around 10,000 people, but not all have received assistance. We took the initiative to go to the ground to help those who have been left out.

“The company works closely with Yayasan Prihatin Nasional to ensure aid is distributed effectively to those most in need. The selection process considers factors such as number of dependents and rising living costs in cities.

“There are those who are salaried but have to support large families, pay rent and have children with disabilities.

“These are among the factors we consider before categorising them as recipients,” he said during the Infak Zakat and Aidilfitri Contribution Ceremony at PPR Batu Muda.

Beyond providing immediate aid, the company also sponsors annual umrah programmes for around 100 ‘asnaf’, with funding exceeding RM1 million for each session.

The initiative has been carried out for nearly nine years, with participation limited to one person per family to ensure that more individuals can benefit.

Arrief expressed hope that these contributions would help ease financial burdens, particularly as families prepare for Aidilfitri.

He also called on more corporate entities to step forward and support welfare efforts, especially during challenging economic conditions.

“A small portion of our income should be returned to society to help those who are less fortunate, especially in challenging economic conditions,” he added.

Among the recipients, 77-year-old Baharom Bidin described the assistance as meaningful in helping his household prepare for the festivities.

“I do not always receive assistance as it depends on the selection by those distributing the aid. I would like to thank all parties who contributed to this assistance,” he said.

Another recipient Syarifah Hashim, 70, said such contributions remain appreciated despite being a recurring initiative.

“There is usually assistance, but when parties come forward to give, we are very grateful. I am happy to be selected and it helps with our Aidilfitri preparations,” she said.
