Labour Day reminds students of the people behind their success
For many students, the day carries a deeper meaning as they begin to recognise the effort and resilience of those around them, especially their parents and educators.

SHAH ALAM – Labour Day is not only a tribute to workers but also a quiet reminder of the sacrifices made behind the scenes to support families and shape futures.
For many students, the day carries a deeper meaning as they begin to recognise the effort and resilience of those around them, especially their parents and educators.
TVET Mara Pasir Mas Student Representative Council president Muhamad Mursyidil Hanif Muhamad Hisham said Labour Day remained meaningful even for students.

He said as a student, Labour Day is important even though they are not working full-time yet, as they have parents who do.
“It’s a chance for them to rest and spend time with family, and for us to appreciate their efforts and everything they do.
“Labour Day is really about recognising and appreciating the hard work of people,” he said when met recently during the Campus Rush Explorace programme at TVET Pasir Mas.
Mursyidil highlighted that some students also worked part-time, making the occasion relevant to them as well, and overall, it remained a meaningful day for both workers and students.
As students gradually gain exposure to working environments, many begin to understand the pressures and expectations that come with employment.
This early experience shapes their outlook and prepares them mentally for the transition into professional life.
Mechanical Engineering student Mohammad Faeq Aqmal Mohd Faiz said his exposure to working life helped him appreciate the importance of Labour Day.

He emphasised that as a student, he had some exposure to real working life, which allowed him to understand how demanding it could be, making Labour Day feel important even for students.
“It gives recognition to those who have worked hard, including those with part-time or early job experience. For me, it also serves as a reminder that I’m preparing myself for the future.
“What I learn now is shaping my mindset and helping me get ready for a career that I’m passionate about,” he said.
Beyond personal experience, family plays a key role in shaping how students view the value of hard work and sacrifice.
Observing the efforts of parents often becomes a powerful reminder of the realities behind earning a living.

Architecture student Ahmad Khawarizmi Ahmad Nazri said witnessing his parents’ sacrifices made him appreciate the meaning behind Labour Day.
“Personally, I see how hard my parents work every day to support me, especially my mother.
“Even though I’m not working yet, I truly appreciate the effort and sacrifices made by workers everywhere.
“Labour Day is important because it recognises that struggle,” he told Sinar Daily.
He stressed that it serves as a reminder to respect others and understand that people depend on one another, while also encouraging continuous self-growth and appreciation for those who work hard for them.
At the same time, the day highlights the importance of rest and maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life.
Students believe this balance is crucial not only for workers but also for themselves as they manage academic responsibilities.
Academic exco Ahmad Aziq Rosli said Labour Day was a time to show gratitude and allow workers to recharge.

He said that Labour Day gives workers the opportunity to spend time with their families, helping them relieve stress and return to work in a better state of mind.
Aziq highlighted that for students, appreciating Labour Day can be as simple as spending time with their parents and showing gratitude, as they are often taken for granted despite being the main source of support.
“I also believe this day is necessary. Work today can be very demanding, and without proper rest, it becomes overwhelming.
“One day off, even beyond weekends, gives workers time to recharge and reconnect with family.
“As students, we can relate too, with assignments and daily tasks, we understand the pressure. It helps us see and appreciate what working life will be like in the future,” he said.
Labour Day ultimately stands as a reminder of the dedication and resilience shown by workers across all sectors.
To all workers, thank you for your hard work and the sacrifices you make every day in building and supporting the lives of others.
