SHAH ALAM –  Any decision on Bersatu or the status of any component party within Perikatan Nasional (PN) must be made in accordance with the coalition's constitution and not through unilateral action, said Selangor Pas Youth chief Sukri Omar.

Amid ongoing speculation over the future of the coalition and whether Pas could move to end its cooperation with Bersatu, Sukri stressed that the PN Constitution clearly outlines the process for matters involving the membership status of component parties.

He said the coalition’s Supreme Council is the body empowered to decide on issues relating to party membership, including any termination of membership, through the prescribed procedures and a majority vote.

“Any major decision regarding the future direction of the coalition cannot be determined unilaterally by any party, but must instead be decided collectively in accordance with the coalition’s constitutional framework,” he said when contacted recently.

Sukri added that he did not have specific information regarding any recent meetings or discussions between the top leadership of Pas and Bersatu.

He said any official clarification on the matter should come from the party’s top leadership or through the official channels of Pas and PN.

“In general, Pas remains calm and continues to uphold the principles of syura (consultation) and organisational discipline in managing matters related to political cooperation.

“Pas has always prioritised consultation, political maturity and broader considerations of the greater good in the interests of the people and the stability of the nation,” he said.

Addressing speculation surrounding the coalition’s future, Sukri urged members, supporters and the public not to be influenced by unverified claims.

He said Pas remained committed to its Politik Matang dan Sejahtera (Mature and Prosperous Politics) principles, which emphasise political stability, unity, integrity and placing the interests of the people above those of individuals.

“Whatever decisions may be made in the future will be guided by the spirit of syura, constitutional provisions and careful consideration of the greater good for the ummah and the nation,” he said.

Sukri added that Pas’ current priority is to strengthen the agenda of ummah unity while focusing on issues affecting the rakyat, including the cost of living, employment opportunities, education and good governance.

He also described differences of opinion within a political coalition as a natural part of the democratic process, calling on party members and supporters to remain united and trust the leadership to make decisions in the best interests of the country.
