Johor polls: Onn Hafiz to defend Machap seat
In the 2022 Johor state election, Onn Hafiz secured the Machap seat with a comfortable 6,543-vote majority. He garnered 11,029 votes to defeat Perikatan Nasional’s (PN-PAS) Azlisham Azahar, MUDA’s R. Sangaran, and Pejuang’s Sharuddin Md Salleh.
JOHOR BAHRU - Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will defend his Machap constituency in the 16th Johor State Election scheduled for July 11.
Onn Hafiz, who serves as the Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, made the announcement himself during the BN Candidate Announcement Ceremony at the Johor Umno Headquarters here on Wednesday.
In the 2022 Johor state election, Onn Hafiz secured the Machap seat with a comfortable 6,543-vote majority. He garnered 11,029 votes to defeat Perikatan Nasional’s (PN-PAS) Azlisham Azahar, Muda’s R. Sangaran, and Pejuang’s Sharuddin Md Salleh.
Prior to that, he made his electoral debut in the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018, winning the Layang-Layang state seat with a slim 364-vote majority against PKR's Murugan Muthu Samy.
Onn Hafiz is set to face Pakatan Harapan (PH) youth candidate Nor Hafiz Roslan, whose candidacy was confirmed by PH Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Tangkak on Monday.
The Johor State Election will take place on 11 July, with nominations set for June 27 and early voting on July 7.
