MELAKA - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) does not see the issue of being left out of the Umno General Assembly (PAU) 2026 invite list as something worth questioning.

PKR communications director Adam Adli Abdul Halim said the party respected Umno's right to decide which guests it wished to invite to the annual assembly.

"It's fine, not being invited is not our business. It's their house, if they wants to invite people, that's their rights.

"We have no issue with it either. Whether invited or not, there's no problem," he said.

He was commenting on Umno's decision not to invite Pakatan Harapan (PH) representatives to 2026 Umno assembly, held from Wednesday to Saturday.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had earlier been reported as saying the invitation to Pas was extended in return for the party's representatives attending the 72nd Pas Muktamar in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, last week.

Adam was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Kampung Angkat Madani programme by the Prime Minister's Department's Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU JPM) at Kampung Sungai Putat on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Hang Tuah Jaya member of parliament said the Sungai Putat flood mitigation project, now past the 50 per cent construction mark, has begun showing positive effects, with flooding in the area gradually easing.

He said the project, worth more than RM24 million, is expected to be completed next year and hoped it would stay on schedule so residents could enjoy its benefits.

"We hope this project can be completed within the stipulated timeframe so residents can fully enjoy the benefits, particularly in reducing flood risk," he said.

In a related development, Adam Adli, who is also deputy higher education minister, said more than RM1 million had been spent through the Kampung Angkat Madani Sungai Putat initiative on various development projects and public facility upgrades.

These included the construction of a hall, road repairs, upgrades to the drainage system and street lighting, and improvement works to the community hall, mosque and mosque toilets.

He said the initiative was important to ensure the results of development and economic growth could be felt directly by communities at the grassroots level.

"Development cannot be focused on certain levels alone. Basic amenities and the needs of local communities also need attention so the benefits of development can be enjoyed more comprehensively," he said.
