Melaka polls: Amanah confident of winning all seven seats - Mohamad Sabu
The confidence was based on the support of young people for Pakatan Harapan (PH), as well as the coalition’s approach of fielding representatives from the new generation

ALOR GAJAH - Amanah is optimistic about winning all seven seats it is contesting in the 16th Melaka State Election, said its president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.
He said the confidence was based on the support of young people for Pakatan Harapan (PH), as well as the coalition’s approach of fielding representatives from the new generation.
"Amanah is contesting seven (seats), and we are confident of winning all seven, Insya-Allah,” he told reporters after giving a ceramah at Jalan Telok Gong, Pengkalan Balak, here last night.
Also present was PH candidate for the Kuala Linggi seat, Muhammad Mukhlisul Mubin Julasapiyah, who is the youngest candidate in this state election.
Apart from Kuala Linggi, the other seats contested by Amanah are Bukit Katil (Adly Zahari), Durian Tunggal (Datuk Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat), Telok Mas (Capt (Rtd) Mohamad Jaafar), Merlimau (Rahayu Hamzah), Sungai Rambai (Aminuddin Abdul Jalil) and Taboh Naning (Junainah Sahat).
On PH’s decision to field eight young candidates in the polls, Mohamad said their selection was based on their qualifications and capabilities, while also providing an opportunity for the younger generation to take on leadership roles earlier.
"That is why we are putting forward young people who we believe are qualified and capable. We are giving them the opportunity from the outset. Criticism is normal. The young are criticised, and so are the old. I myself was 27 when I first became a candidate,” he said.
He said the presence of young candidates did not mean that the role of veteran leaders was being sidelined, stressing the importance of combining the capabilities of candidates from different age groups, both men and women.
Asked about the challenge in the Bukit Katil seat, Mohamad said no seat could be considered safe, and he was confident that voters would make the appropriate considerations on polling day.
Adly, who is also Melaka PH chairman and the incumbent for the seat, faces a four-cornered contest against Ridzuan Sarif of Perikatan Nasional, Dr Aliza Che Amran of Parti Bersama Malaysia and independent candidate Abu Bakar Sabudin.
The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day, with early voting on Nov 10. - BERNAMA
