Thailand’s Deputy Public Health Minister Sathit Pitutecha says officials have been asked to identify and collect samples for testing passengers who show symptoms related to monkeypox to guard against the potential spread of the disease in the country.

Monkeypox is a rare but potentially serious viral illness that typically begins with flu-like illness and swelling of the lymph nodes and progresses to a widespread rash on the face and body, according to the CDC.
