Yap Thye Sun is charged with attempting to murder Corporal Mohd Nazri Sudiman by stabbing him in the abdomen, causing a 'penetrating abdominal wound with evisceration', an injury that could have led to the victim’s death.

Both the suspect and the victim were students at the private university and that the motive of the attack was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
