ISKANDAR PUTERI - The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has reminded Putrajaya to respect the Federal Agreement of Malaya 1948 and 1957, adding that the agreement between the state and federal should not be violated at will.

"All parties must remember the power of the state as enshrined in the Malaya Agreement, do not make decisions at will. I am disappointed with the decision made by the Federal government to cancel the appeal of Batu Puteh claim in 2018.

"The then prime minister had made his own decision by ordering the Attorney-General to take a break when the Cabinet was not formed yet. Johor was not consulted at all even though the decision involved the land and sovereignty of Johor.

"Therefore, I want the government to take stern action against those who violated state authority," he said.

"Even if the power of the state has been violated, the Federal Agreement can be considered void and Johor is no longer part of the Federation," he said at the 15th Johor State Assembly at the Sultan Ismail Building in Kota Iskandar here today.

On June 13, de facto law minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar had said the government is expected to receive a report over Pedra Branca or Pulau Batu Puteh next August.

A special task force chaired by former Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali was set up to review the sovereignty of Batu Puteh, Batuan Tengah and Tubir Selatan.
