SHAH ALAM - Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) has asked Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong the reason for rising road deaths in the country due to human errors, including speeding, weaving dangerously while changing lanes without signals, violating red lights and using mobile phones while driving.

PBM Senior Vice President Steven Choong Shiau Yoon said his party will be writing to the minister to meet and discuss the matter.

“It’s time to look at a comprehensive plan," he said.

He touched on two tragedies involving nine lives lost after a railer driver was reported to have 13 traffic offences that included three road accidents in 2012 and two in 2020.

“It was worrying and surprising to know a driver that possessed many traffic offenses was still allowed to drive,” he said in a statement.

Choong further said the speed limit regulations should be strictly enforced with an awareness campaign held frequently.

“The fact that most of the road tragedies in our country are due to human negligence as reported by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) is worrying," he said.
