KELANTAN - Malaysia is facing difficulties in eliminating corruption and drug problems.

Lawyer Nik Saiful Adi Burhan said crimes involving profit in a form of money were difficult to combat.

"Our country has various enforcement agencies and laws but corruption is still there because of the profit gained.

"Transactions in corruption are mutual where it benefits each party who gets the money.

"So when this happens, it is difficult to curb," he said during the Kompas On The Go live programme by Rasuah Busters.

Nik also stressed that receiving or giving bribes would eventually damage the nation's economic system.

He said it also involved national sovereignty where there were cases of smuggling in of drugs and illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, Kelantan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Foundation chief Muhammad Nizam Ismail said education was crucial in order to educate the children about the imprtance of fighting against corruption.

"Education within the community is important for people to have a better understanding on corruption which is a crime and a sin.

"We have to conduct forums or talks more often so that people are aware of the consequences of corruption.

"As long as the giver and receiver are there, corruption will be a never-ending cycle," he added.
