KOTA KINABALU - A special task force has been established at the district level to identify voters in the respective Parliamentary constituencies in the state following the sudden surge of voters in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government was currently in the midst of scrutinising doubtful voters and a report will be received soon.

"This will be done at the district level because only they know who are the voters. For example the ballot box area, village or voting district.

"Only they would know, they lived in the areas for decades, so they would know. We will receive the report when observation has been made," he said when met by reporters after officiating the pre-launch of the "Sayang" cooking oil by Kumpulan Sawit Kinabalu in Anjung Selera, Likas, on Wednesday.

He said this when asked regarding the suggestion made by Lumadan assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam on the establishment of the special task force to investigate the surge of voters in Sabah.

Hajiji said he had instructed the party machinery to examine the voters in each area and to find further information on the voter's background.

"We will continue to examine these doubtful voters, we have instructed each of the party machinery in the area to observe these voters to determine whether they are from the area," he said.

There seemed to be a sudden surge in registered voters in Sabah and it was revealed by several party leaders in the state.
