SHAH ALAM - A large-scale survey carried out by five leading media in the country together with three research firms brings a clear message which is to gather the wishes and voices of Malaysians ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15).

Sinar Harian news editor Zamri Rambli said as media platforms acted as an intermediary between the government and the people, Sinar Harian, Astro Awani, The Star, Sin Chew Daily and Malaysia Nanban collaborated to play their roles in making the voice of the people heard and highlighted the most important issues for them

Thus, he believed that as Malaysians headed towards GE15, it was important for competing parties to pay attention to the issues highlighted.

“We want the findings from this survey to be taken into account, then build the narrative of their struggle and their manifesto and when we become the government, we will be able to resolve the issues of concern.

“From the very beginning, we have established that the theme of this mega survey is ‘What the People Want’, which is to know what is in the hearts and voices of the people.

“With the results of the study, we managed to find out the main issues plaguing the people that need to be brought to the attention of the country’s leaders at this time,” he said.

Zamri added that although three research firms conducted surveys separately with their own methodology and target respondents, the answers or concerns of the people regarding the main issues that needed to be resolved by the government and national leaders were almost the same.

“Issues regarding the cost of living, rising prices of goods, the economy, education, political instability and interracial relations received the highest percentages in all surveys conducted by the three research bodies involved.

“So, this is the role of the media, to highlight the people’s voice about the most important issues for them to be refined and highlighted by the leaders,” he said.
