Heavy downpour causes floods at 11 locations in Selangor, 3 PPS opened

SHAH ALAM - Heavy rain around Klang, Shah Alam, Puchong and Kajang since midnight last night causes several areas to be flooded and a landslide.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said that among the flooded areas were Jalan Kampung Landasan Bukit Kuda and Taman Sentosa, Klang; Kampung Sri Aman and Putra Height Harmoni 1, Puchong; Taman Chi Liung, Teluk Pulai and Taman Maznah.

"Water level was also detected to rise at Taman Pasir Mas, Jalan Seroja, Jalan Reko and Taman Teknologi Kajang, Kajang; Bukit Lanchang, Taman Sri Muda and Jalan Kebun, Shah Alam as well as Kampung Sungai Pening and Sungai Lalang, Semenyih," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Norazam said the department’s operations centre (Selangor PGO) received several distress calls on flood at 12.26am.

"A total of 130 Fire and Rescue officers and members with logistics assets involving 20 boats, four lorries, 10 utilities and eight machines were mobilised to all flood and landslide locations," he said.

Norazam said that until 3.30am, over 31 victims were transferred to a flood relief centre (PPS) after their homes were flooded.

"The three PPSs were opened at Kampung Johan Setia Mosque, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2 and Ulu Semenyih Primary School," he said.

He said the deepest water rise was detected at 0.6 metre in Jalan Landasan Kampung Bukit Kuda, Klang while the lowest water reading was detected at 0.3 metre around Taman Sri Muda, Jalan Kebun and Kampung Bukit Lanchong.

"We are also paying attention to the elderly and people with disabilities (OKU) and the evacuation of flood victims was still being carried out until four this morning.

"We also detected a trend of water starting to subside in some locations after the heavy rain started to subside," he said.

Norazam said that members and officers from the Kajang Fire and Rescue Station also helped to rescue four victims in the collapse of a house at the back of a two-storey terrace house, Taman Sri Jelok, Kajang.

"No casualties were reported in the incident," he said.
