MUAR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said until now, Democratic Alliance of Malaysia (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is still in touch with him as the latter considered him as a "father" in politics.

He said Syed Saddiq sent him a WhatsApp message wishing him victory in Pagoh.

"He sees me as a father, that is why he sent messages praying for me to win in Pagoh until now.

"I also want to pray for him to win in Muar," he said speaking at a Muar Parliament ceramah at Padang Bukit Mor, Parit Jawa.

However, Muhyiddin said he actually wanted Muar PN candidate Abdullah Husin to win.

"I said it, but my intention wanting Abdullah to win was because of PN. It's okay, there's no need to tell," he said.

Muhyiddin also said it was him who brought Syed Saddiq into politics when he was appointed as Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) youth chief.

He said Syed Saddiq was an intelligent person and was his protégé.

"Syed Saddiq is my protégé. He is smart. In the early days, he was not even in politics.

"When I was a member of Bersatu, I saw that he was a good kid... I said come here, don't go to London to study there. Stay here and I want to appoint him Bersatu youth chief," he said.

However, Muhyiddin said, after that, Syed Saddiq left Bersatu and formed Muda.

"That was the beginning of how (Syed Saddiq) entered into the political arena. I don't know how, a lot of things happened until he left Bersatu.

"He said he wanted to form Muda, he asked if he could form it because he sees me as a father up until today," he said.
