Kelantan passes anti-party hopping law

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah brought the amendment motion and was unanimously supported by all members of the State Assembly without being debated.
"The purpose of the amendment is to ensure that the Anti-Party Hopping Law is fair and in line with decisions made in the previous Parliament session," he said when rolling up the bill at the Third State Assembly Conference of the Fifth Term in Kota Darul Naim here.
Meanwhile, Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Abdullah Ya'kub said the amendment was implemented in accordance with the Constitution Act (3) 2022 in relation to the provisions of the Prohibition of MPs from Switching Parties which came into force on October 5.
The Act was approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Aug 31 and gazetted as Act A1663 on Sept 6.
The Kelantan State Assembly resumes its session on Tuesday.
