SHAH ALAM - Those eligible to RM5 monthly internet unity package are smiling their way to 2023.

Disabled man, Adam Hafiz Khairul Azhar, 27 said: "Its a good idea as basic internet is absolutely crucial for communicating."

Commenting on the feature where 30 gigabytes (GB) would be offered at the price of RM30, he said this could be improved further.

"For this, the government could look into improvising on the data size offered."

"Internet coverage is also something the government should look into," he added. Aina Diah Ahmad Zabidi, 25, from the B40 group welcomed the initiative and believes it is good news for all those who could not afford it previously.

"With this incentive, it can lift a little burden from our pockets to spend on the internet," she said.

Furthermore, she believes that with more affordable internet, more people will be connected.

"News and information that were previously not accessible, now be easily obtained," she added.

It was previously reported that the government would introduce a prepaid mobile internet plan at a lower price of RM5 per month.

Digital and Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil recently announced that the government will provide a "Unity Package" prepaid mobile plan to boost digital connectivity within Malaysians.

Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai MP said five telecommunications service providers would be involved in the implementation of the package.

The service providers involved are CelcomDigi, Maxis, UMobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL Communications.

Fahmi said the groups being targeted are youths aged up to 30, those in the bottom 40 per cent household income group, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and veterans of uniformed bodies.
