BANGI - Former chief executive officer (CEO) of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) Datuk Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff reminds the community to consistently perform their job responsibly and reject the act of corruption.

Hasyudeen, who is also part of the Rasuah Busters core team said while it might be 'fun' to commit the offence since bribery provided temporary pleasure, but eventually, you would be responsible for it.

"When I became the CEO of TH, I reminded my officers that we will stand before God, what we do will be questioned, there will be a reckoning, today's actions will have an impact in the future, so if we are Muslims, we can't go around before God later.

"So we need to take our responsibility seriously, whether people know it or not, will be audited or not, if we are directed to do something contrary, are we willing to do it?

“Remember, do we want to be happy now or in front of God later," he said as a forum panellist titled 'Governance with Integrity' in conjunction with the Governance with Integrity Convention that took place at Bangi Golf Resort on Thursday.

Other panellists were Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) president Badlishah Sham Baharin and APPGM-SDG Policy and Research Officer Teo Lee Ken while Sayed Munawar Sayed Mustar was the moderator.

When talking about dealing with the issue of corruption, Nik Mohd Hasyudeen stressed that each of us has to play our own role.

Meanwhile, Teo said, control over political power was crucial to ensure that there were checks and balances in this country.

He said if the country wanted a change, Malaysia's political structure needed to be competent and the people were urged to play this role together.

He explained that the instrument also enables the prevention of a culture of corruption from continuing to spread in this country.

"We need to have a border of power, there are checks and balances, this also needs to be given proper emphasis," he stressed.
