Preliminary objection hearing over Marang GE15 result set for Feb 2

Election judge Datuk Hassan Abdul Ghani made the decision after hearing several preliminary objections submitted by the respondents and the petitioners' counter-arguments in the proceedings that started at 11am today.
Lawyer Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who represented Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, said he had inserted several matters involving the question of laws and procedures in the preliminary objection argument.
Takiyuddin said the court asked for both parties to insert arguments and facts which the court had determined before Feb 6.
"If our preliminary objection is accepted, there will be no trial, but if it is rejected the court will decide a decision date for the petition," he said to reporters at the court grounds today.
The petitioners were represented by lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun.
On Jan 16, Sinar reported the Terengganu Umno communications bureau filed a petition to annul the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) for the Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Kemaman Parliament.
The petition involving the three areas were filed on Jan 3, according to the Election Offences Act 1954.
Terengganu Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said who represented BN as well as three other candidates in the Kemaman Parliamentary seat for GE15 contested and lost to Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid who won with a majority of 27,179 votes.
Hadi maintained his victory in Marang with a majority of 41,729 votes while the Kuala Terengganu Parlaiment remained with its incumbent Datuk Amzad Hashim (Pas) who obtained a majority of 40,907 votes against three candidates.
