SHAH ALAM - DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng had condemned Pas President Abdul Hadi Awang's claims that the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would soon collapse as continuous systemaic sabotage aimed at undermining the administration.

"Hadi claimed that Pakatan Harapan (PH) only managed to form the government by winning the non-Muslim vote, warning that Malaysia could be controlled by non-Muslims if Malays had low political awareness," said Lim in a statement.

"Hadi cited the 68 per cent voter turnout of Muslim voters in the recent 15th general elections, compared with the 98 percent turnout of non-Muslim voters as evidence.

"This is false and must be exposed as a lie. The actual overall turnout for the election was 74 per cent," he said.

Lim was responding to Hadi's statement yesterday, in which he warned that if Malays continued to lack political awareness, Malaysia could be taken over by non-Muslims.

Lim said that Hadi has made false allegations by stating the unity government was a non-Muslim government.

"Out of the 148 MPs supporting the unity government, more than half or 77 are Muslim MPs, dispelling the false narrative that the unity government is dominated by non-Muslim MPs.

"The 77 Muslim MPs in the unity government contrast with the 72 out of 74 Perikatan Nasional MPs who are Muslims.

"There are more Muslim MPs in the unity government than the opposition Perikatan Nasional and yet Hadi continues with falsehoods to project the extremist sentiments to corral the Muslim votes without any regard whatsoever for non-Muslims in Malaysia," he said.

Lim also stressed that Malaysia belongs to all citizens including the non-Muslims.

"For Hadi to continue to exclude non-Muslims is not only wrong but also opposed to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree for Malaysians to respect diversity and practice tolerance in our multi-racial society," he said.
