KUALA LUMPUR - The government will refer the Political Funding Act to the soon to be established Parliamentary Special Select Committee (PSC).

Law and Institutional Reform Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the measure could enable political parties and stakeholders to provide their feedback to ensure the Act is comprehensive.

"For the Political Funding Act, we will refer the special select committee as discussed previously.

"I understand the Dewan Rakyat Speaker will make the announcement regarding the creation of special select committee soon.

"The Act will be referred to one of the committees," she said when wrapping up the Budget 2023 debate in Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.

Azalina (BN-Pengerang) said the government will take into account existing practices and legislations to address the issue of political funding, among them were the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694), the Election Offences Act 1954 (Act 5), Registrar of Societies Act 1966 (Act 335) and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613).

"The political developments post-15th general election (GE15) found the Malaysian political landscape changing with several new coalitions.

"The engagement sessions must continue to gain feedback from political parties and stakeholders to ensure the bill enacted is inclusive and comprehensive," she said.
