JETCO to boost efforts to attract green technology investors to Johor

JOHOR BAHRU - The Johor Economic, Tourism and Cultural Office (JETCO) plans to further strengthen work related to green technology in an effort to attract more investors related to the industry including increasing collaboration with Singapore.

Chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad said this is in line with the state government's efforts to focus on climate change and the environment by 2030.

"In terms of climate change and the environment, Singapore is far ahead in financing and businesses that venture into environmental aspects, and also in expertise and technology.

"And with such a large investment made by Singapore in the (said) sector to deal with climate change, Johor should also be an area that neighbouring Singapore can focus on (in green technology)," he told reporters at the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) Open House, here, today.

Also present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and MBJB mayor Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman.

The Simpang Renggam MP said Johor has a lot to learn as Singapore invests a lot and emphasises the use of green technology in the republic.

Two weeks ago, Onn Hafiz had in an interview with the Singaporean media expressed his desire to see more collaboration with the republic, including in green technology.

Meanwhile, Hasni, who visited the JETCO office in Singapore located at Centrepoint, Jalan Orchard yesterday, managed to arrange a meeting with two Singaporean companies that intend to invest in Johor.

The former menteri besar (MB) said the meeting was considered very important as both wanted to make the state a major distribution centre in two different fields.

"First is in the field of fashion. Singapore has highlighted many new talents entering the field of fashion so if it intends to make Johor a major distribution centre in the Asian region, it is a good opportunity.

"Second is in oil and gas (O&G) related companies. When Pengerang starts operating as an O&G hub, we need to implement various approaches so that these suppliers of equipment related to the O&G industry will start operating in Johor,” he said.
