Guard lodges false missing bike report to claim insurance caught

BENTONG - A security guard lodged a false police report on his motorcycle with the intention of making an insurance claim.
Bentong district police chief Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the 33-year-old lodged the report at 10.30pm claiming that his motorcycle had gone missing in Genting Permai, located in Genting Highlands.
"However, after looking through his statement, the police grew suspicious and proceeded to examine the CCTV footage within the area.
"It revealed that no such incident had taken place and had fabricated the story as his motorcycle was damaged and he did not pay his monthly installments," he said in a statement today.
He said the suspect lodged a police report with the sole intention of making an insurance claim.
The police then took action by filing a police report against the suspect. The case was subsequently investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for lodging a false report.
It "carries a maximum six months imprisonment or a maximum fine of RM2,000 fine or both, if convicted, Zaiham said.
He further warned the public, urging them not to file false reports as legal action could be taken if found guilty of such misconduct.
