GEORGETOWN - Penang will dissolve its state legislative assembly on June 28, paving the way for state elections.

Its chief minister, Chow Kon Yeow made this announcement after attending the Wacana Education Knowledge Appreciation and Distinguished Education Service Award Inauguration Ceremony here on Thursday.

Chow added that all matters related to the dissolution of the state assembly will be handled as smoothly as possible.

"The state assembly dissolution is suggested to be done on June 28, and we will arrange for it," he said briefly when asked about the state's dissolution date.

Chow, who is also the Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, also said that the dissolution of the state assembly will be done within the last 10 days of this month.

He had also previously been reported as saying that the Penang government would have its state assembly dissolved in the third or fourth week of June to pave the way for state polls.

Six states would carry out the state election. They are Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.

The Election Commission (EC) had earlier said that the state elections should be held simultaneously, as suggested by several parties.
