SHAH ALAM - The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) says it is not too late for the Selangor government to re-implement the policy of appointing contract civil servants who have served for more than 15 years to permanent positions, as recommended by the Public Service Department (PSD) in 2016.

Its president Datuk Adnan Mat said he was confident that the state government is concerned about the civil servants' welfare and always appreciates the worker's contributions over the years.

It was understood that the matter would be discussed at the state government meeting (MMKN).

"We welcome the assurance given by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to review the decision to cancel the policy of appointing contract civil servants who have served for more than 15 years to permanent positions.

"Cuepacs described the Selangor government's action to immediately cancel the policy enacted by PSD regarding the guidelines for recruiting contract-appointed officers to permanent positions as drastic and imprudent.

"So we are ready to hold a discussion on this matter, and we are confident that Amirudin's leadership is wise in handling the current situation," he said in a statement today.

On Tuesday, the media reported that the Selangor government's action to immediately cancel the policy decided previously was seen as having no concern for the civil servants' welfare.

Following this, Cuepacs was disappointed and upset with the state government's action and said they wanted Selangor Menteri Besar to reconsider the decision.

However, Amirudin stated that they will review the decision to cancel the policy of appointing contract civil servants who have served for more than 15 years to permanent positions.

He added that MMKN will review the matter in a meeting in the near future.

Commenting further, Adnan said it was not appropriate for the state government to cancel a policy that was considered good and brought benefits to their workers.

He explained that every job seeks development in its respective career, and the same goes for civil servants who served in agencies and departments under the state government.

"It is with great regret if the career development aspect was simply cut off without giving reasonable reasons.

"All civil servants in Selangor expect good news from the Selangor government," he said.
