KUALA LUMPUR: Former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani says that the handover of duties between him and his successor is a normal process in the police force.

He said this during his speech at the handover of duties ceremony between himself and Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

"Maybe you think it is unusual, but there is nothing unusual in the process.

"The situation requires me to shorten my service duration to fill external needs," he said today.

Prior to that, Acryl had thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who had shown his concern for him.

"When I expressed that I would end my service on Oct 3, the Prime Minister had offered post-retirement plans (for me), and I did not expect that.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also said that there was nothing controversial about the appointment.

"Don’t read beyond that. I had an audience earlier with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, followed by the prime minister, and the matter proceeded smoothly," he said.

Saifuddin also revealed that at first, the prime minister wanted to place Acryl in a position abroad, but the latter wanted to be close to his grandchildren and neighbours.

"It is up to him (Acryl, on his decision), and I wish him all the best no matter where he will be," he said.

He was commenting on the appointment of Razarudin as the new IGP to replace Acryl Sani effective tomorrow, as announced by him in a statement yesterday.

Acryl was appointed as IGP on contract after retiring for two years effective Oct 4, 2021, meaning that his services should have ended on Oct 4 this year.
