SHAH ALAM - The police have been urged to investigate the recent statement made by former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, in which he claimed that a "green wave" would lead to the destruction of temples and the denial of religious rights in Penang.

Umno Youth chief Akmal Saleh said that this action serves as a strong warning against playing with the sensitive issues of religion, race, and royalties, regardless of the political party involved.

"It is crucial that we refrain from using religion, race, and the monarchy as political pawns, and this applies not only to the opposition but also to the government.

"Accusations such as the one made by Guan Eng are entirely unnecessary for the people of Malaysia.

"I urge the police to investigate this statement," he wrote on his Facebook today.

According to a local news portal citing a Mandarin newspaper, Guan Eng warned Penang voters to prevent the "green wave" from gaining influence in the state, suggesting that it would destroy Buddhist temples and impose various restrictions on non-Muslims.

To this, Akmal said that the people of Malaysia seek progressive and mature politics that foster meaningful discussions based on ideas rather than divisive sentiments.

He stressed that Islam does not promote the oppression of other religions, and this is an undeniable fact.
