JOHOR BAHRU - The Johor government will review possible measures, including proposing a new waste disposal location to manage solid waste at the Tanjung Langsat Landfill (TPSTL) here, following a fire incident two days ago.

State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said there are three locations that have been identified - Pasir Gudang, Seelong Kulai and Bukit Payung Batu Pahat.

He said that the proposal will be submitted to the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT).

"The landfill site is under the purview of KPKT, with the designated operator responsible for its management.

"We will review various strategies including the implementation of a technology-driven waste disposal site in Tanjung Langsat,” Mohd Jafni said at a press conference following the Clean Johor @Sg Skudai programme at Taman Impian Emas.

Also present was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Meanwhile, Mohd Jafni said the Special Area Plan (RKK) Committee for Sungai Skudai has been established to address the river’s pollution issues.

Among others, the committee is tasked with reorganising the squatter settlements, which are estimated to consist of approximately 1,000 residences along the river. This effort is being carried out in collaboration with the Johor Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ).
