Shaharul Amir's remains laid to rest according to Navy protocols

LUMUT - The remains of Shaharul Amir Omar, 49, one of the passengers onboard the plane that crashed in Persiaran Elmina, Shah Alam, last Thursday, were laid to rest at Taman Persemadian Islam Seri Manjung here on Sunday.

The remains of the Shaharul, who was a retired Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), arrived at Jami'e Al-Ikhwan Mosque in Manjung Raya Village here at around 2.38pm and were safely buried at 3.41pm after funeral prayers.

"Over 300 individuals, including family members, police officers, and RMN personnel, attended the funeral, and the remains were carried out in accordance with RMN protocols," he said.

A sad atmosphere enveloped the cemetery as soon as Pengkalan Lumut Headquarters Religious Officer, Major Azlan Abdullah @Omar, read out his speech.

The RMN's ensign was then handed over to the deceased's younger brother, Russakinar Omar, 41, as a symbol of the RMN's appreciation for his sacrifice while serving.

Also present were Lumut MP Commander (B) Nordin Ahmad Ismail; Naval Special Forces (PASKAL) Commander First Admiral Datuk Mohd Redzuan Talib; and Manjung District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah.

"Shaharul Amir was confirmed to be involved in the accident, which took nine lives, including Pelangai State Assembly Member Datuk Seri Johari Harun, a motorcyclist, and a car driver.

The deceased left his wife, Suhaila Akasha, 46, and four children aged 19 who are also disabled (OKU), 17, 15, and 12 years old.
