JOHOR BAHRU - Two teenagers died after the car they were driving lost control and hit a tree in Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Taman Suria Muafakat near here on Saturday.

The victims, Lee Chee Yong and Seow Zong Ho, both aged 19, were pronounced dead at the scene at 2am.

Operations Commander from Larkin Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Senior Fire Officer II, Firdaus Abdullah, said a total of 12 members, together with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), one Emergency Service Assistance Unit (EMRS), and two Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM) units, were sent to the scene.

"The accident involving a Honda City in which two young men were riding is believed to have crashed.

One victim was found stuck in the car, while the other was thrown onto the road divider. Firefighters pulled out the trapped victim.

"Medical officers from the Health Ministry confirmed that the victim died at the scene," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, said that at the time of the incident, the two teenagers involved were believed to have come from the direction of Skudai towards the city centre.

"The car they were riding skidded and hit a tree on the left side of the road, causing the vehicle to turn and overturn. The case is being investigated according to Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

In another case, Raub said, a man died after being ridden on a motorcycle involved in an accident at the fourth turn of Jalan Tun Abdul Razak near here.

He said the victim, who was riding a Yamaha LC135 motorcycle from the city centre to Skudai, lost control before skidding and falling under a Volvo car parked on the right side of the road without a driver.

"The victim, who is in his 40s, was confirmed dead by medical officers from the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) Johor Bahru who were present," he said.
