SHAH ALAM - Despite facing challenges after former President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's resignation, Muda is actively rebuilding and strategising for the upcoming 2024 elections.

Acknowledging the impact of Syed Saddiq's departure, Muda's Secretary-General Amir Abd Hadi said that the party's primary focus was on internal rejuvenation.

"We acknowledge that after the court decided that the former Muda President was found guilty, it has somewhat affected the party.

"We want to take enough time to rebuild together.

"We don't want to be too quick in making any decisions because we are afraid everything will collapse at once," he told Sinar.

Amir added that among the plans currently being made by Muda was the preparation for the upcoming elections next year, around June.

"Muda is conducting a cleansing or purging of its membership to ensure the actual number of active members or those who are no longer with Muda.

"In January, we will also launch the new Muda office and certainly, many more plans are being worked on for 2024," he said.

Commenting on the possibility of appointing a new president during next year's election, Amir said it depends on the situation and the members' voting.

"Of course, as one of the founders, we have suggestions for improvements to the party's election system.

"During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) last year, Muda proposed amendments to the constitution, especially in terms of party elections.

"However, the amendments have not been approved until today.

"Whether we will know the new president during the election day or not depends on the members' votes and the current situation," he said.

In November, the High Court found Syed Saddiq, who is also the Muar MP, guilty of four charges of conspiring to commit criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of funds, and money laundering involving the funds of the Bersatu's (Armada).

Following this, he announced his immediate resignation from the position of Muda President to enable him to clear his name from the court's conviction.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz is currently serving as the acting president.
