‘KERANA pulut santan binasa, kerana mulut badan binasa.’ This proverb is often used when linking to rough or careless speech that ultimately invites 'disaster' upon oneself.

The metaphor can also illustrate what happened to famous actor Datuk Rosyam Nor following his suggestion to establish a special prostitution house for foreign workers.

That 'slip-up' eventually invited public criticism, including from the mufti and professional groups who opposed the celebrity's proposal.

For instance, Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor criticised the suggestion, describing it as contradictory to Malaysia's position as a country that enshrines Islam as the Federal religion in its Constitution.

He strongly asserted that the proposal seemed to encourage immorality in the country, especially considering that many foreign workers are Muslims.

After receiving warnings and criticism, Rosyam Nor, or his real name Mohamed Noor Shamsuddin, 57, came forward to clarify the actual situation regarding his proposal and issued an apology.

He explained that the circulating recording was a promotional video for a podcast programme produced by Suhan Channel.

So, what lesson can we learn from this sensational suggestion? As Malaysian citizens, we should be sensitive, especially when it involves religious matters.
