KUALA LUMPUR - The public is reminded to think rationally and not become too obsessed when using social media, especially information related to the 3R (race, religion and royalty).

Kelab Media Profesional Malaysia chairman Ahmad Nazib Johari said this was because social media is often misused by certain parties to intentionally cause confusion among the people through the sharing of fake news regarding such matters.

"... we can't control others, we need to check ourselves. For example, we must stop content that worsens the situation so that we get less (condemnation).

"Whatever the content, don't get emotional. What we post or upload reflects who we are,” he said in Bernama TV's 'Apa Khabar Malaysia’ programme today.

As such, he said, the collaboration between social media users, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and CyberSecurity Malaysia is crucial to curbing such issues from prolonging.

Ahmad Nazib also advised the public to be careful and not to overshare social media posts, especially their particulars.

This, he said, was due to users who follow the trend too much to gain more "likes” and "followers” for the sake of popularity.

"Don't fall into this unhealthy practice, don't rush to win on social media to avoid self-destruction; there needs to be maturity and emotional rationalisation,” he said. - BERNAMA
