SHAH ALAM – Iftar with Dates was a remarkable success, drawing 24 enthusiastic participants eager to find meaningful connections in a faith-centred setting.

Organised by Sinar Daily, the event provided a refreshing alternative to traditional matchmaking, blending Islamic values with modern social interaction.

From engaging discussions to guided interactions, participants had the opportunity to connect on a deeper level while embracing the spirit of Ramadan.

Held in conjunction with Karangkraf’s Iftar Ala Madinah at the Karangkraf Complex in Seksyen 15, the March 24 event created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for singles aged 20 to 35.

With a thoughtfully structured programme, including a tazkirah (Islamic reminder) on finding a compatible spouse, an elevator pitch session and a relaxed mixer before iftar, the event provided a comfortable space for genuine conversations.

Amir Hazmi Shadan, a 23-year-old university student, found the event insightful, particularly in understanding the experiences of those who were already working and in relationships.

He also appreciated the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

"I didn’t have much knowledge about relationships, so attending this event gave me valuable new perspectives.

"It wasn’t too crowded, which made it easier to engage in conversations without feeling nervous.

"One of the best moments was discovering shared interests with someone—it made the conversation flow naturally," he said.

Given his positive experience, Amir expressed interest in attending similar events in the future.

"I think it was a great space for introverts too since it didn’t feel overwhelming.

"Meeting new people outside of these events can sometimes be more intimidating,” he added.

For Mohamed Hanif Mohd Hamzah, a 31-year-old project engineer, the event stood out because of its structured approach to meeting people.

As someone with an open-minded approach, Hanif appreciated the opportunity to interact with diverse individuals.

"Iftar with dates was unique because it was designed for speed dating. I felt connections with a few of the women I met, and even with some of the guys—it was just a good place to expand your social circle.

"I didn’t really mind whether it was a faith-centered event or not, as long as there were certain boundaries," he said.

He also expressed interest in joining similar events in the future, depending on his circumstances.

Both Amir and Hanif found value in the event, whether in gaining knowledge, making connections, or simply enjoying meaningful conversations.

Their experiences highlighted the impact of well-organised social gatherings in creating a welcoming and engaging space for meeting new people.

With positive feedback and meaningful connections made, 'Iftar with Dates' proved to be a success, showing that faith-centred dating events could create genuine opportunities for lasting relationships.

As Ramadan continues, Sinar Daily hopes to inspire more events that brought people together in ways that honoured both tradition and modern relationships.
