KOTA BHARU - Kelantan still trails behind West Coast states in foreign investment appeal due to a lack of comprehensive trade facilities and port networks.

Sultan Muhammad V said this during the opening of the third session of the 15th Kelantan State Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The Kelantan Sultan emphasised the need to speed up infrastructure development and offer competitive tax exemptions to make the state more attractive to investors.

“For example, the development of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project will introduce new functions in two areas, namely a ‘Cargo-Oriented Development’ in the Pasir Puteh district and a ‘Transit-Oriented Development’ in Tunjong, Kota Bharu.

“Therefore, the people should view this as an opportunity to take part and subsequently enjoy the spillover benefits of the project,” His Majesty said.

He stressed that beyond improving the transportation system, the ECRL project could significantly benefit the local economy.
