SHAH ALAM – A Facebook group known as ‘Grup Budak-Budak Sekolah Rendah,’ which had previously sparked public outrage due to the sharing of inappropriate images of young girls for immoral purposes, has been found to be inaccessible since Wednesday afternoon.

A survey by Sinar revealed that attempts to access the group, which was previously classified as a ‘public group,’ have been unsuccessful.

However, it remains unclear whether the status of the group was changed to a ‘private group’ by the account administrator, or if it has been taken down by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Earlier, social media influencer Mek Yun, or Wee Yun Nee, 28, revealed the existence of the group and urged authorities to take immediate action to block the spread of such immoral content.

Mek Yun, a former student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Jambul in Penang, expressed her shock upon discovering that her school photos had also been uploaded to the group without her consent.

“I was informed about this by an Instagram follower who saw my photo posted on the site. I couldn’t bring myself to scroll through the content of the group because of the obscene comments left by immoral men.

“The forum’s content is filled with images of school students being turned into subjects of vile fantasy conversations involving underage teenagers. I have made a report to the authorities for further investigation,” she said.

It is understood that the group had been active since May 15, 2014, and had about 12,000 members.

The content was open for anyone to upload images and posts.

Among the content detected were images of young girls with obscene and immoral captions, which raised serious concerns in the community.

As of now, the authorities have not released an official statement regarding the follow-up actions against the group. However, social media users have rallied together, urging for justice and demanding that the perpetrators behind the group be held accountable.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the rise of online spaces that facilitate the exploitation of minors, with many advocating for stricter regulations and monitoring of social media platforms to prevent such abusive behavior.

Calls have also been made for greater awareness and education on online safety, especially for children and teenagers who may unknowingly be exposed to harmful content.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the matter and take the necessary actions to address the issue and prevent further incidents from occurring.
