Man shot during cycle in SAF live firing area
Preliminary investigations found that at the time of the incident, the SAF was conducting a live firing activity at Nee Soon Range, about 2.3 kilometres away.
SINGAPORE - A 42-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound while cycling with friends in an area gazetted for Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) live firing on Sunday (June 15).
In a statement Monday, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said the incident occurred in a forested area of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, between Upper Seletar Reservoir and Upper Peirce Reservoir, at around 11.40 am.
The police were alerted to the incident by the National University Hospital (NUH), where the man had been brought by his friends for treatment.
"A bullet slug was lodged in the man’s left lower back. The injury is not life-threatening, and the man is currently in a stable condition after surgery to remove the bullet slug,” police said on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry (MINDEF) said the SAF is working closely with the police and other relevant authorities to further investigate the circumstances of the incident.
"As a precautionary measure, live firing activities at the Nee Soon Range have been suspended,” the ministry said in a statement.
MINDEF said under the Military Manoeuvres Act, unauthorised persons are not allowed to enter gazetted areas designated for SAF live firing, in consideration of their own safety.
Police said the area has signage warning against unauthorised entry.
Police and SAF investigations are still ongoing. No foul play is suspected at this juncture. - BERNAMA
