Crocodile sighting causes stir at Taman Sutera Wangi lake
Perhilitan investigates viral crocodile sighting in Melaka lake

MELAKA – A suspected crocodile sighting at the lake in Taman Sutera Wangi, Batu Berendam, has caused concern among locals, especially anglers who frequent the area.
According to Melaka Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) Director Petra Sulai, his team received a report last Thursday from an angler who claimed to have spotted the reptile.
Following the report, Perhilitan conducted an inspection at the site last Tuesday but found no sign of the crocodile and could not confirm the sighting.
An investigation revealed that the lake is approximately 2.65 kilometres from the Melaka River.
"However, regular patrols and vigilant monitoring at the reported site are still ongoing.
"We urge the public, especially anglers, not to act on their own.
“If there are any wildlife conflict complaints, they can contact the Perhilitan hotline at 1800-88-5151," he said when contacted on Friday.
While the species could not be identified, Petra did not dismiss the possibility that it could be a saltwater crocodile, a species commonly found in the state.
An image of what appeared to be a crocodile in the lake had earlier gone viral on social media.
As a precaution, police placed yellow tape around the area to restrict public access and prevent any potential danger.
