SHAH ALAM - Football team Harimau Malaya is on course to reach their highest Fifa ranking in two decades following back-to-back victories in this month’s international friendlies.

According to unofficial calculations, the national squad under Peter Cklamovski are set to move up five places to 120th in the world, an improvement from their previous position at 125th.

The progress comes after Malaysia collected 9.75 points from their two matches on home turf.

The first breakthrough came at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, where Malaysia defeated long-time regional rivals Singapore 2-1, earning 3.86 points.

The momentum carried into the second game, as Harimau Malaya stunned Palestine, ranked 98th in the world, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.

That result added another 5.89 points to Malaysia’s tally, significantly lifting their standing in the FIFA world rankings.

If confirmed, this achievement will see Malaysia surpass their best position in twenty years, having last been ranked 123rd in December 2005.

Their all-time highest ranking was back in 1993, when Ken Worden’s side reached 75th place during FIFA’s first introduction of the ranking system.

Looking ahead, the team will shift their focus to the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, where they face Laos twice next month.

Malaysia currently top Group F with six points from two straight wins and further victories would place them firmly on course for a spot in the final round in Saudi Arabia.
