MUAR – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) is ready to use its own logo if it does not get permission to use the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo to contest the upcoming Johor state election (PRN).

Its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the matter will be discussed and decided by consensus at the PN Supreme Leadership Council Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

He said the decision on the use of the party or coalition logo would only be finalised after discussions with the PN leadership.

"Some people ask me what logo we're going to use. We will use the PN logo, but how can we use it if the PN chairman (Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar) doesn't want to sign? (To use) the PN (logo), there needs to be a mandate," he said.

He said this while speaking at the launch of the Johor 16th State Election (PRN) Machinery in Bakri here on Sunday night.

Also present were Bersatu vice-presidents Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin; Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Bersatu Johor chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal.

On June 16, Muhyiddin was reported as saying that Bersatu would remain with PN and would use the coalition logo in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

However, the following day, Pas reportedly described the statement as hasty.

Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah was reported as saying that the mandate or authority to use the PN logo needed to be signed by the PN chairman, not party presidents.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, who is also the Pagoh MP, said Bersatu has many candidates to field and the party needs to contest many seats so that it can form the government if it wins this Johor PRN.

"Johor has 56 seats. In the last PRN, Bersatu won two seats in Bukit Kepong and Endau, plus one Pas seat in Maharani.

"If 10 seats are not enough to form the government, we need 28 plus one new seat to be able to form the government," he said.
