MUAR – The nomination centre for the Bukit Kepong state constituency at the Pagoh Sports Complex turned into a battleground of chants this Saturday, as supporters of the three major coalitions - Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) - made their presence felt.

The atmosphere was charged with competing slogans, including “Hidup BN, Maju Johor,” “Hidup PH, Undi Harapan,” and “Hidup PN, tolak orang hancing,” echoing through the complex.

PN candidate Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal arrived at approximately 8.50am, accompanied by Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. The group entered the nomination centre while reciting the selawat.

Shortly after, PH candidate C. Subramani and BN candidate Ahmad Syarie Yusof arrived with their respective groups of supporters to submit their nomination papers.

For the record, in the 2022 Johor State Election, Sahruddin - representing Bersatu-PN - secured the Bukit Kepong seat with 9,873 votes. He defeated BN’s Ismail Mohamed, who garnered 9,163 votes, winning by a majority of 710 votes.

Also contesting in that election were Muda’s Nur Afiqah M. Zulkifli (3,076 votes) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air’s Md Taib Md. Suhut (191 votes).

The Bukit Kepong (N07) seat is expected to see a three-cornered fight between the incumbent, PN’s Datuk Dr. Sahruddin Jamal and his challengers, Ahmad Syarie Yusof (BN) and C. Subramani (PH).
