SHAH ALAM - DAP has successfully passed a motion to amend its constitution so elected representatives who do not abide by the party's fundamental issues will automatically lose their membership.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said only two delegates opposed to the amendments, which was meant to cover loopholes in the existing constitution.

He said the party will file an application with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to update the party’s constitution.

Loke expressed hope that it would be approved before the 15th General Election.

"The constitutional amendment has been approved to ensure we are in line with the Federal Constitution has been approved by the representatives, this amendment has been sent to RoS in the hope that RoS can give a decision before GE15.

"We understand that the federal constitution amendment has been gazetted and will be effective as soon as possible," he said in a press conference after the special congress.

On the two delegates who opposed, Loke said they had their own reasons for it and said "it was fine".

He stated that every state should make the amendments, noting that Negeri Sembilan will make the amendments on Oct 17.
