KOTA KINABALU - The Election Commission (EC) should clarify the situation regarding the sudden increase in the number of voters in Sabah, especially Indian voters in Kudat to avoid the existence of 'ghost' voters in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said he was concerned about the matter and it had already been raised with the EC Chairman to seek an explanation.

"We know when the system processes automatically, then those with their identity card registered at the address are used in Kudat by chance. (But) since when was such a large number of that race (Indian) in Kudat.

"This is the issue we raised, but don't accuse us of making IC (identification cards).

“There won't be 14,000 Indian voters there when I know (there) is the Bajau Ubian tribe there," he said when met by reporters while attending the Tour and Launch program Sepanggar Division Warisan Election Machinery, in Kolombong, on Saturday.

He said this when asked about the claim by the Penampang Bersatu Chief Senator Datuk John Ambrose that there are more than 16,000 Indian voters who werevon the electoral register in Kudat Parliament.

Meanwhile, in the same meeting, Shafie also announced two more candidates for the Penampang and Sepanggar Parliaments, keeping the incumbents.

"I also have the opportunity to announce our candidate for Penampang MP who is the Deputy President (Datuk Darell Leiking) and in Sepanggar, we name Datuk Azis Jamman as the candidate.

"(For Kota Kinabalu candidates) we will announce when the time comes, some of them we will list are candidates who have a strong track record not only in Sabah but also in Malaysia.

"Because Parliament is where we sit and throw out new ideas, new views that can be brought as part of national policy not only in terms of economy but also stability," he said.

Warisan has so far announced its five candidates including a new face for the Sipitang Parliament Datuk Adnan Puteh and Bongawan State Assemblyman Dr Daud Yusof as the candidate for the Kimanis Parliament while the incumbent member of Papar Parliament seat Ahmad Hassan remains in the running for the seat.
