SHAH ALAM - Former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Sharif describes the act of suspending him for six years by Umno Supreme Council in a meeting last Friday as "cruel and full of agenda".

Salim said he was shocked to receive the news from social media since the former Umno Supreme Council member was not called by the party's Disciplinary Board before.

Admist the controversial decision, Salim, the Jempol Umno chief further said he had helped BN candidate contesting in 15th General Election despite facing personal problems.

"My wife is currently at the UKM Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz intensive care unit (ICU). She is a cancer patient and bedridden.

"Despite that, I was still committed to campaigning to help the BN candidate win the Jempol Parliamentary seat even though I was not re-nominated. The party won in style.

"So, when the party made a decision to suspend me, I definitely felt wronged. It was like falling off a ladder and then getting hit by it," he told Sinar.

Salim said he was not informed of the suspension and is yet to receive a letter on the matter.

"Nobody contacted me or anything (send letter) until last night when I received a text, friends said my name was (under the suspension) list. I was taken aback. What was my fault?" he asked.

Salim said, he will wait for an explanation from the party over the matter before taking any further action.

Meanwhile, Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang who was also suspended for 6 years voiced concern over a possible rejection towards Umno within the party grassroots in Johor.

He said this is because the Supreme Council on Friday had taken disciplinary action on several party leaders from the state including on Hishammuddin who is perceived as an influential Johor Umno leader.

"Same goes to Datuk Hasni (Mohamad), who is very popular among Johor citizens, when he was dropped as Johor Umno chairman.

"I accept any membership suspension by the party. I am just worried that Umno's future will be darker and it will be rejected by youths due to the limited space for freedom of expression," he stressed.
